Ghana introduces blockchain-based gold tracking to combat illegal exports

Ghana is launching a blockchain-based gold tracking system to address illegal exports and restructure the gold sector. The system will register miners and assign unique codes to production batches to enhance transparency.

The initiative could recover $2 billion lost each year due to illegal trade. A proposed Gold Board would oversee purchases from miners, ensuring fair pricing and compliance through an anti-smuggling task force.
