Brazilian police seize 45,000 USD worth of crypto in ‘protection racket’ raid

Brazilian police executed 11 search warrants across Rio Grande do Sul, seizing 45,000 USD in crypto and freezing 13.3 million BRL in bank accounts linked to suspects involved in extortion.

The protection racket is believed to be orchestrated from prisons by gang leaders, compelling garage owners to pay to avoid violence and potentially laundering money through crypto.

This is part of Operation Timeo, aimed at cracking down on organized crime, suggesting broader connections among suspects and previously arrested inmates.
