US government urges court to reject Coinbase user’s crypto records fight

The U.S. Government filed a brief asserting that James Harper lacks Fourth Amendment protections over financial records provided to Coinbase, emphasizing that IRS actions were lawful and supported by previous court rulings.

Harper contends that the IRS’s actions constitute an unconstitutional search. However, lower courts ruled against him, stating that Coinbase records are business documents, thus diminishing privacy expectations under legal precedents.
