Riot hires data center chief as Bitcoin miner ramps up HPC and AI hosting plans

Riot Platforms has appointed Jonathan Gibbs as Chief Data Center Officer. This strategic hire aims to bolster the company’s push into high-performance computing (HPC) and AI hosting.

The company is diversifying its revenue sources beyond Bitcoin mining services. By pausing its Bitcoin mining hashrate expansion in Corsicana, Texas, Riot seeks to explore other opportunities in data center services.

Riot’s move reflects a broader trend in the Bitcoin mining sector where companies are pivoting toward HPC and AI to stabilize income. Major firms like Bitfarms are also hiring industry veterans to enhance their HPC initiatives.
