US May jobs report comes in above expectations with 139,000

In May, the US economy gained 139,000 jobs, exceeding the Dow Jones forecast of 125,000, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Wages rose by 0.4%, with a yearly increase of 3.9%. The unemployment rate held steady at 4.2%.

Health care led job additions with 62,000 new positions, followed by 48,000 in hospitality. Conversely, the federal sector cut 22,000 jobs due to recent government staffing policies under President Donald Trump.
