Vietnam Airlines Wants to Establish a Cargo Transport Airline

At the 2025 Annual General Meeting, Vietnam Airlines’ General Director Le Hong Ha announced the airline plans to convert A321 aircraft for cargo transportation, starting in Q4 2025. This move is the first step toward establishing a dedicated cargo airline by 2026. The airline is focusing on building logistics centers at major airports like Long Thanh and Gia Binh to compete with giants like FedEx, UPS, and Qatar Airways Cargo. According to IATA, global cargo transport volume is projected to reach 72.5 million tons in 2025. Meanwhile, Vietnamese carriers still hold a modest 12.6% market share in cargo transport as of 2023. Additionally, the IPP Air Cargo project initiated by Johnathan Hanh Nguyen has suspended its application for business licensing due to global market fluctuations.
