HRC Sales Volume Increases by 37% After 5 Months, Hoa Phat Faces ‘Blow’ from Imported Wide Hot Rolled Steel from China

According to Vietcap’s report, Hoa Phat Group’s (HPG) sales volume in May 2025 increased by 21% compared to the same period last year, bringing the total volume in the first five months to 2.15 million tons, a rise of 15%. Notably, hot rolled coil (HRC) sales jumped 37% year-on-year, reaching 1.8 million tons, attributed to the construction season and the recovery of the real estate market. However, Hoa Phat faces pressure from the influx of HRC imported from China, which surged to 181,000 tons in May, 25 times more than in 2024. The total HRC imports from China in the first five months reached 430,000 tons, twelve times higher than the same period last year. The Ministry of Industry and Trade has initiated an investigation and imposed anti-dumping duties on certain hot rolled steel products from China. Hoa Phat is advocating to ‘unlock’ two iron ore mines for raw material self-sufficiency.
