A phishing scam is targeting a Bitcoin wallet worth 8.7 billion USD, linked to the hack of Mt. Gox. This involves an OP_RETURN transaction with a deceptive link aimed at acquiring personal information from the wallet owner’s address.
The Bitcoin wallet first received 79,956 BTC back in 2011, which is now valued at around 8.7 billion USD. The major hack resulted in the loss of a total of 850,000 BTC from Mt. Gox, totaling over 92 billion USD today.
Research indicates multiple old Bitcoin addresses are being targeted in this ongoing scam. Authorities recovered only a fraction of the stolen Bitcoins, with many still dormant in wallets like the one currently under threat.
