A coalition of crypto advocacy groups, including Paradigm and Blockchain Association, has filed an amicus brief supporting developer Michael Lewellen in a lawsuit against the DOJ for applying money transmission laws to open-source software developers.
These groups argue the DOJ’s interpretation creates uncertainty, potentially deterring innovation and forcing developers to either move offshore or cease their projects. They emphasize that the intention of Section 1960 was not meant for decentralized software.
