Nicholas Truglia had his prison term raised from 18 months to 12 years for failing to repay 20 million USD to crypto investor Michael Terpin. Judge Alvin Hellerstein indicated that Truglia actively evaded restitution obligations despite having significant assets.
Initially convicted for a SIM-swapping scheme in 2022, Truglia stole cryptocurrencies from victims, leading to a civil lawsuit from Terpin, who secured a 75 million USD judgment after losing 24 million USD due to the scam.
