Tether announces all USDT will be discontinued on five legacy chains effective September 1

Tether will discontinue support for USDT on five legacy chains, including Omni Layer and Ethereum, effective September 1. Tokens on these chains will be frozen as Tether aims to focus on its most active networks, TRON and Ethereum.

Paolo Ardoino, Tether’s CEO, emphasized that ceasing support for legacy chains allows Tether to enhance its infrastructure in line with market trends. USDT will continue to be minted on newer L2 chains to increase liquidity in the DeFi landscape.

Holders of USDT on the affected chains must seek swap solutions to transfer their assets before the freezing date. The discontinuation is part of Tether’s strategy to optimize its stablecoin offerings in response to market dynamics.
