Windsurf CEO, execs join Google in AI deal after OpenAI acquisition falls through

Google DeepMind has successfully hired Windsurf’s CEO Varun Mohan and other key executives after OpenAI’s acquisition attempts collapsed. The company is poised to pay 2.4 billion USD for a license to Windsurf’s technology without gaining ownership, emphasizing a trend of talent acquisition.

Windsurf will operate independently despite the personnel changes, continuing to license its AI coding tools. The startup’s co-founders are optimistic about joining Google and evolving its offerings, while Google aims to enhance its AI capabilities with the new talent.
