EU sanctions crypto entities for election interference, disinformation

The EU sanctioned nine individuals and six entities accused of leveraging cryptocurrencies for election interference and pro-Russian disinformation, highlighting a strategic move to disrupt these financing channels.

Simeon Boikov, an alleged Kremlin influencer, is notably involved in spreading misinformation during the US elections. He raised funds using high-risk exchanges and cryptocurrencies without proper oversight.

Among those sanctioned is A7 OOO, linked to Ilan Shor, which manipulated elections in Moldova. The firm used a ruble-backed stablecoin, marking its role in cross-border financial activities tied to geopolitical conflicts.
