Lake Superior Academy has taken legal action against a cryptocurrency mining center, citing noise issues that have persisted since March. The school’s superintendent described the noise as a relentless ‘chorus of mechanical insects’, disrupting the learning environment.
Superintendent Susie Schlehuber reported that the noise levels reached 75 decibels at the school’s edge and 65 decibels at the front doors, akin to a running vacuum cleaner. Despite measures taken, such as using hay bales, the noise remained intolerable.
The lawsuit follows an order to pause operations temporarily, which did not result in a significant change in noise levels. Odessa Partners LLC, the mining operation’s owner, claimed significant daily losses due to the noise complaint.
