Bitcoin app Samourai founders face 5 years in prison following guilty plea

William Lonergan Hill and Keonne Rodriguez, creators of the Bitcoin mixer Samourai Wallet, changed their pleas to guilty for running an unlicensed money transmitting business, which could result in a five-year prison sentence.

The U.S. Department of Justice dropped a more severe money laundering charge in exchange for the guilty plea. Samourai Wallet was known for allowing users to hide their digital transactions, raising concerns regarding privacy-enhancing services in cryptocurrency.
