Cryptojacker gets 1 year prison after admitting to 3.5 million USD fraud

Parks used fake companies to gain computing privileges, mining nearly 1 million USD in Ether and other cryptocurrencies between January and August 2021. His deceit was revealed when he misused computing resources purportedly for a training company.

The illicitly mined cryptocurrencies were laundered through exchanges into luxury items, including a Mercedes-Benz. Parks was ordered to forfeit 500,000 USD and the vehicle, with further court decisions pending.

Despite his fraudulent activities, Parks had sought to portray himself as a crypto influencer, promoting a self-improvement program online. Authorities highlighted that his reputation as an innovator was a facade for his fraudulent actions.
