Since July 2023, Australia’s ASIC has identified 14,000 online scams, including more than 3,000 cryptocurrency-related incidents. Deputy Chair Sarah Court has highlighted efforts to monitor social media advertising for potential scams.
Investment scams continue to dominate, with reported losses surpassing 73 million USD so far in 2025. Despite significant actions against scams in previous years, the weekly average of takedowns is down slightly in 2025.
Scammers are leveraging technologies such as AI trading bots and deepfake content, making it increasingly difficult for victims to discern legitimate opportunities from fraud. ASIC urges consumers to remain vigilant against these evolving threats.
