On August 20, FPT Corporation inaugurated the FPT Fornix HCM02 data center in HCMC, which is the largest in Vietnam with an area of 10,000m² and a capacity of 3,600 racks. At the event, CEO Nguyen Van Khoa confirmed that Elon Musk’s Starlink satellite internet service had been granted a trial license in Vietnam. In the initial phase, Starlink chose FPT to build the ground station at this data center, tasked with receiving signals from satellites and providing internet service to Vietnamese users.
The Vietnamese government approved SpaceX’s pilot telecommunications project using low-orbit satellites in March 2025, with a planned investment of $1.4 billion, including the production of Starlink terminals locally. Starlink is currently operating in over 125 countries and territories with more than 5 million users, aiming to develop a global internet network through tens of thousands of satellites in low orbit.
