ECB reports advancements in digital euro development

The ECB has made notable strides in developing a central bank digital currency designed to enhance cash transactions in the eurozone. Testing is projected to finish by October 2025, suggesting a rollout may happen shortly after.

The ECB urges EU governments to fast-track legislation establishing legal frameworks for the digital euro, aiming for a launch by late 2025. This initiative aligns with a global trend of over 100 countries examining CBDCs.
