Tether freezes 44.7 million USDT at Bulgarian police’s request and faces lawsuit from Texas firm

Tether, a major stablecoin issuer, froze 44.7 million USDT in April 2025 following a request from Bulgarian authorities. Riverstone Consultancy Inc. Has since initiated legal action against Tether, arguing that the freeze was illegal.

Riverstone contends that Tether failed to adhere to necessary legal protocols for asset freezing, leading to substantial financial losses. The firm is pursuing a court order to release the frozen USDT and reclaim damages amounting to at least 44.72 million USD.
