Laos to halt electricity supply for cryptocurrency mining by early 2026

According to Laos’ Deputy Energy Minister, the government aims to stop power supply to crypto mining farms by the first quarter of 2026, reallocating electricity to more productive industries.

Mining farms currently consume 150 megawatts, significantly down from the 500 megawatts consumed at their peak in previous years.

The Deputy Minister stated that cryptocurrency mining does not provide as much value as industrial users, prompting the government to redirect energy resources.
