Construction tycoon Coteccons explains billion-dollar revenue but ‘thin’ profit

At Coteccons’ (HoSE: CTD) 2025 Annual General Meeting, shareholders expressed concerns about the company’s billion-dollar revenue but only 2% profit. For the financial year 2025, Coteccons reported a net revenue of nearly 24.9 trillion VND, with a post-tax profit of 456 billion VND, an increase of 47% from the previous year. Deputy General Director Trần Ngọc Hải attributed the low profit to the competitive construction market and fluctuations in material and labor prices. In 2026, the company plans to stop adding provisions and aims to improve profits by handling bad debts. As of June 30, Coteccons’ total assets reached over 29.7 trillion VND, with equity nearing 9 trillion VND. Revenue for the first quarter of the 2026 financial year hit 7.4 trillion VND, a 56.6% increase, with unexecuted contracts reaching a record 51.6 trillion VND. Coteccons aims for an average revenue growth of 20-30% between 2025 and 2029, focusing on public investment projects and expanding into international markets, successfully completing projects in Cambodia, Laos, India, and establishing a presence in the US, Saudi Arabia, and Taiwan, with a focus on niche markets.
