Federal Reserve introduces lite master accounts for financial technology firms

At the Payment Innovation Conference, Governor Chris Waller introduced the lite master account concept, allowing legally qualified institutions like fintechs to access the Federal Reserve’s payment system without needing partner banks.

The proposal has received cautiously optimistic responses, with expectations for enhanced institutional participation in finance, particularly from fintechs and stablecoin firms, as they navigate the traditional banking landscape.
