Spanish council’s plan to sell Bitcoin following 1,000x increase to support quantum research

The Tenerife Council, overseeing ITER, aims to sell the 97 Bitcoin acquired in 2012. Despite past selling challenges, Minister Juan José Martínez remains hopeful about quick collaborations with a regulated entity.

Initially bought as part of a blockchain experiment, the Bitcoin’s value surged to about 9.8 million USD, with proceeds to benefit additional research projects, especially in quantum technology.
