Investigation reveals state-sponsored hack behind 127,000 Bitcoin theft from Chen Zhi

The National Computer Virus Emergency Response Center reported on a significant Bitcoin theft that took place in 2020, involving 127,272 Bitcoins belonging to Chen Zhi. These Bitcoins remained untouched for nearly four years, suggesting the attack was orchestrated by a state-sponsored hacking organization.

In October 2025, the U.S. Department of Justice charged Chen Zhi and seized 127,000 Bitcoins, believed to be connected to the LuBian mining pool hack. This incident raises implications of government involvement from the beginning, hinting at a complex state-sponsored operation.
