Korea Customs Service reports 11.4 trillion won in illegal money laundering over five years, 83% via crypto assets

Over the past five years, the Korea Customs Service reported 11.4 trillion won in illegal financial flows, with 83% occurring through crypto assets. Recent arrests uncovered a case involving stablecoins, specifically USDT, contributing 920 billion won to these illicit activities.

During the same timeframe, foreign currency smuggling amounted to 240 billion won. In response, the Customs Service has assembled a 126-member specialized team focused on enhancing inspections against cash concealment and anti-money laundering efforts.
