As of January 5th, according to CME’s “FedWatch,” the likelihood of unchanged interest rates by the Federal Reserve is 82.8%. Additionally, there is a 17.2% chance of a cut this month.
By March, the cumulative probability of a 25 basis point cut rises to 44.1%, while the chance rates stay the same decreases to 48.9%. A significant cut of 50 basis points has only a 7.0% likelihood.
