A ‘liquid gold’ ship will be brought to the 300 million USD Thi Vai port this month

Thi Vai port has the capacity to receive LNG ships with a deadweight of 100,000 DWT. The National Power System Operation and Electricity Market Company (NSMO) recently held a meeting with PV Gas to discuss the operation of LNG-powered power plants. PV Gas has increased the port’s capacity to 7.7 million Sm3/day since March 6, 2025. The port is expected to receive the LNG ship on April 19-20, 2025, with approximately 3.2 million BTU of LNG, making the total intake for April about 160 million Sm³. From early March to April 10, 2025, 75.9 million m³ of LNG has been consumed. Mr. Huynh Quang Hai from PV Gas emphasized the importance of forecasting gas supply as domestic gas sources may decrease from 2026. Thi Vai LNG port, invested with nearly 300 million USD and inaugurated in 2023, is the largest LNG port in Vietnam with an average capacity of 1 million tons of LNG/year, with plans to increase this capacity to 3 million tons. PV GAS is the only company certified for LNG export and import.
