Thi Vai port currently has facilities to accommodate large LNG carriers. PV Gas held a meeting with stakeholders to coordinate the operation of LNG-powered power plants. Mr. Nguyen Vy stated that they have tested increasing capacity from 5.7 million to 7.7 million Sm³/day, receiving operational certification for the new capacity from March 2025. In April, it’s expected that an LNG vessel will arrive at the port with approximately 3.2 million BTU of LNG. From early March to April 10, 2025, the system has consumed 75.9 million m³ of LNG, indicating a high demand for LNG in electricity production. PV Gas warns that domestic gas supply will decrease from 2026-2027, making it crucial to stockpile gas reserves. The 1 million-ton Thi Vai LNG port, which broke ground in 2019 with a total investment of nearly $300 million, aims to be the most modern LNG port in Vietnam, with substantial accommodating capability and plans for future capacity expansion.
