A state-owned enterprise profits 10 times more from stocks of billionaire Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao

At the end of the trading session on August 14, HDB shares of Ho Chi Minh City Development Bank and VJC shares of Vietjet both hit the ceiling, with HDB reaching 30,950 VND/share and VJC at 136,300 VND/share. This surge increased billionaire Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao’s wealth by 205 million USD to 3.5 billion USD, ranking her 1,111th globally. The State Financial Investment Company of Ho Chi Minh City (HFIC) owns over 93 million HDB shares, now valued at 2,897 billion VND, an increase of 10.7 times from the initial investment of nearly 270.9 billion VND. In 2024, HFIC reported revenue of 12,708 billion VND, up 3% but with a 23% decline in profit. Thao previously mentioned that Vietjet’s share value had grown about 5 times recently, with early investors seeing nearly a 100 times increase.
