A third of central banks cool on launching CBDCs over regulatory concerns

The survey conducted by the OMFIF revealed that only 18% of central banks are inclined to issue a CBDC, a stark contrast to 38% in the previous year. Political will and privacy concerns are among the key issues hindering CBDC implementation.

The report emphasizes that establishing a supportive regulatory framework relies heavily on political will, and nearly one-third of surveyed banks have pushed back their CBDC plans due to regulatory concerns.
