Apple is considering ditching its in-house AI models in Siri

Apple is in advanced discussions to potentially replace Siri’s internal AI with models from Anthropic and OpenAI. Internal testing indicates Anthropic’s Claude has outperformed Siri’s existing models, prompting a re-evaluation of Apple’s AI strategy.

The shift in management has redirected Siri’s development oversight, increasing exploration of external language models to enhance capabilities. Previous attempts to use on-device AI models from OpenAI were declined.

Despite potential collaborations, internal morale is low as Apple employees feel demoralized by this shift. Concerns regarding reliance on third-party AI models raise issues about Apple’s long-term investment in proprietary technology.
