Billionaire Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao’s Group Reduces Ownership in HDBank

Sovico Group, led by billionaire Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, has completed the transfer of over 65 million HDBank shares, reducing its ownership to 9.9% (over 385 million shares). The transaction, valued at over 1.9 trillion VND, took place from November 21 to 25 to comply with regulations on maximum ownership in banks. Currently, Ms. Thao holds 130 million HDBank shares (3.38%). HDBank shares are currently priced at 32,000 VND/share, a 25% increase since the beginning of the year, with a market capitalization exceeding 123 trillion VND. HDBank plans to distribute a 25% stock dividend in 2024 and issue an additional 5% bonus shares from its equity reserve. HDBank also announced intentions to sell its stake in Vietjet but has not disclosed details. In early 2025, HDBank issued 800 bonds valued at 800 billion VND, while Vietjet issued an additional 10,000 bonds worth 1 trillion VND.
