Bitcoin Core 29.1 drops the default minimum relay fee from 1 sat/vB to 0.1 sat/vB. This decision, made by developers in August 2023, aims to make Bitcoin transactions more affordable as the currency’s exchange rate has significantly increased.
With over 72.5% of Bitcoin nodes using Bitcoin Core software, the new fee structure is expected to be widely adopted. Most operators likely maintain this default setting to facilitate smoother transaction processing.
