Bitcoin Python library targeted by wallet draining malware

Using machine learning, researchers detected malware aimed at users of Bitcoinlib, a widely utilized Bitcoin Python library. The malware sought to overwrite commands to extract sensitive database files, masquerading as solutions to issues encountered during Bitcoin transfers.

The malicious packages named ‘Bitcoinlibdbfix’ and ‘Bitcoinlib-dev’ have been removed, eliminating any risk to developers. Automation in malware detection is crucial for protecting against the increasing number of software supply chain attacks targeting cryptocurrency.
