British hacker ordered to repay over 5.07 million USD in Bitcoin after breaching celebrity accounts

Joseph James O’Connor has been ordered to repay over 5.07 million USD in Bitcoin after hacking celebrity accounts. Previously sentenced to five years in the US, O’Connor was arrested in Spain and is being extradited based on the victims’ location.

In a notable 2020 hack, accounts of high-profile figures like Obama and Biden were exploited to orchestrate a Bitcoin scam. Recently, the UK authorities announced a civil lawsuit to seize assets estimated at around 42 Bitcoins.
