CFTC exodus: Fourth commissioner to depart ‘later this year’

Kristin Johnson announced her plan to leave the CFTC ‘later this year’, after her term concluded in April. Serving since March 2022, she addressed issues related to decentralized financial products and digital assets.

The CFTC may face a complete overhaul in leadership, with potential nominations from former President Trump before 2026. Other commissioners have also chosen to step down, indicating a significant shift.

Ongoing calls for clearer regulatory structures are gaining attention as the CFTC and SEC manage digital asset regulations. Policymakers are urging for a defined legal framework for the crypto market.
