China’s Tencent reports 13% rise in quarterly revenue driven by AI and gaming growth

Tencent’s revenue for Q1 2025 hit 180 billion yuan (25 billion USD), representing a 13% increase year-over-year. Profits also rose but fell short of analyst expectations, reaching 48 billion yuan.

The company highlighted the role of AI and gaming in this growth, noting a 17% increase in gaming revenue. The Yuanbao chatbot’s active users surged by 11-fold, demonstrating significant engagement.

Tencent is bolstering its WeChat platform with a new e-commerce department, aiming to enhance user transactions and experiences as it integrates more advanced AI capabilities into its services.
