Coinbase hackathon faces backlash for awarding prizes to questionable apps tied to staff

The Coinbase Base network hackathon is being criticized for awarding prizes to potentially fake applications linked to Coinbase employees. This followed the ‘On-Chain Summer Prize’ competition, where over 500 teams competed for a prize of 200,000 USD.

Investigations revealed that the projects owatch and Opi Trade were likely fake, being AI-generated with no real functionality. Distressed developers of legitimate projects are demanding accountability from the organizers as tensions rise in the community.
