Crypto exec ran a ‘covert pipeline for dirty money,’ DOJ says

Iurii Gugnin faces a 22-count indictment for alleged money laundering and fraud, using his crypto firm, Evita Pay, to process funds for Russian clients linked to sanctioned banks. The Department of Justice claims he enabled access to sensitive U.S. Technology through this scheme.

If convicted, Gugnin could face life imprisonment, with different charges carrying various maximum sentences. The DOJ emphasized its commitment to combating financial crimes that threaten national security.
