DOJ alum Kevin Muhlendorf tapped to police SEC as inspector general ahead of Trump’s crypto shift

Kevin Muhlendorf is set to take over as SEC Inspector General on July 28, 2025. Praised by SEC Chair Paul S. Atkins, his experience in both the SEC and DOJ positions him well to improve transparency and efficiency in the agency.

This appointment comes after former SEC Chair Gary Gensler’s resignation, coinciding with Donald Trump’s push for a more favorable regulatory approach to cryptocurrencies. The SEC’s new Crypto Task Force aims to create clear guidelines for investor protection.
