The U.S. Department of Justice seeks to reclaim 20.3 Bitcoin valued at approximately 2.3 million USD due to connections with the ‘Chaos’ ransomware group, which emerged in February. The complaint filed in Texas highlights these funds as proceeds from illegal activities.
The FBI seized the Bitcoin linked to a member of the ‘Chaos’ group who is associated with multiple ransomware attacks. The funds were obtained via a recovery seed phrase from an Electrum wallet and are currently held in a government-controlled account, pending further legal actions.
