ECB simulation shows digital euro could lead to deposit outflows of up to 700 billion euros

A recent simulation by the European Central Bank indicates that the introduction of a digital euro could potentially trigger deposit losses amounting to 700 billion euros, raising concerns about bank liquidity.

Depositors might withdraw 8.2% of retail demand deposits if individual holding limits are set at 3,000 euros. Maintaining these limits is crucial to ensure financial stability and mitigate risks among smaller banking institutions.
