Ethereum plans to raise its gas limit from 60 million to 80 million in January 2026 after the second BPO hard fork. Further optimizations at the client level are needed to proceed.
A meeting is scheduled for January 5 to confirm the timing for the gas limit increase. The previous hard forks have significantly boosted blob capacity.
With continued developments, Ethereum’s gas limit may reach 180 million by the end of 2026, enhancing transaction throughput on the network.
