Ex-CFTC chair leaves without replacement pick from Trump

Rostin Behnam announced his resignation as chair of the CFTC effective Feb. 7, 2025. His departure leaves the leadership without a direct replacement from President Trump, maintaining a balance between Republican and Democratic commissioners.

Caroline Pham has been appointed as the acting chair of the CFTC. Under her leadership, the agency is restructuring its priorities and ending its regulation by enforcement approach, a significant shift in its operations.

Before his resignation, Behnam emphasized the need for clear regulatory guidelines for the crypto sector, indicating that the CFTC will continue to advocate for establishing proper guardrails in the industry.
