FBI highlights $305 million Bitcoin theft linked to North Korea

The FBI and Japan’s National Police Agency reported that hackers leveraged social engineering tactics to infiltrate DMM’s systems, leading to a substantial loss of Bitcoin.

Affiliated with North Korea, the TraderTraitor group used impersonation of recruiters to manipulate a Ginco employee, enabling unauthorized access to wallets and subsequent theft.

The 2024 security breaches resulted in losses estimated at 2.2 billion USD, emphasizing the urgent need for heightened cybersecurity in the cryptocurrency sector.
