Florida sheriff’s office forced to return seized crypto after legal challenge

In April, the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office seized 1.19121 BTC from a brokerage account without adequate legal grounds. Attorney Leslie Sammis successfully contested this action, citing a lack of proper documentation and due process violations.

The Sheriff’s Office agreed to return the seized cryptocurrency and funds sent to Wisconsin, totaling $95,030.59 USD, after the legal challenge highlighted serious flaws in the seizure process.
