Former FLC Chairman Trịnh Văn Quyết Requests to Change Prison Sentence to Fine

In the appeal trial on June 17, former FLC Chairman Trịnh Văn Quyết and several defendants requested to change their prison sentences to fines for the offense of “manipulating the stock market.” The court received over 5,000 requests for leniency from victims, including one from his wife, Lê Thị Ngọc Diệp, who urged the appellate court to reduce her husband’s sentence. She pledged to use the excess funds already deposited with debt enforcement agencies to pay fines. Quyết’s lawyer stated that the family had paid the full amount for damages. Hương Trần Kiều Dung, former FLC Vice Chairwoman, also sought to convert her prison sentence to a fine. Other defendants, including Trịnh Thị Thúy Nga, Quyết’s sister, withdrew their appeals to lessen the amount owed in damages. Trịnh Văn Quyết was sentenced to 21 years in prison and is also responsible for compensating a total of over 2.472 trillion VND.
