Further punishment awaits South Korean civil servant who stole 416,244 USD to buy crypto

The individual embezzled public funds under the pretense of student work subsidies. Although charged, the Board is calling for more severe disciplinary measures, noting a troubling trend of embezzlement linked to rising crypto interest amidst economic uncertainty.

The Board has recommended minimal penalties for the official’s managers as well. Public officials in South Korea face stringent actions, including dismissal or demotion, rare in a career normally associated with stability and security.
