Global Ledger has uncovered over 15 million USD in assets from Garantex, an amount still being transferred despite Tether’s efforts to freeze their holdings. This draws attention to possible enforcement gaps in sanctions.
Tether froze 27 million USD on the same day Garantex paused operations, claiming interference from the Russian crypto market. Lex Fisun emphasized that the ongoing transactions reveal a failure in the control of such sanctions.
Amid ongoing investigations, Garantex’s founder, Aleksej Bešciokov, was arrested in India and might be extradited to the U.S. On conspiracy charges, which include money laundering.
